Service Pack 1 included 5 Overall Fixes. 2 of those are Y2K fixes, and fixes to IE4, and OE4.

Windows System Update[]

This addresses a number of issues, and incorporates several fixes and updates including one of the strangest to ever occur on Windows.. The bug in question is hardly going to affect most people's PCs or cause people to lose sleep: apparently after 49.7 days of continuous use, Windows 98 (or Windows 95) crashes. How anyone could keep Windows 98 continuously running without one crash or restart was a bit of Mystery, until someone identified a VXD file, that caused a timing SNAFU. More important but less exotic fixes include USB, Active Accessibility and networking (Plug and Play Adapter) updates. Some other minor bug fixes are also included

Y2K Patch 1[]

This Y2K patch is one of the five parts that make up the Windows 98 Service Pack 1, which also includes a second Y2K patch. The Windows 98 Y2K Patch 1 will resolve many issues in Windows 98. It includes Y2K fixes for:

  • Date/Time Picker (comctl32.dll)
  • Microsoft Wallet (actpmnt.ocx)
  • Microsoft Virtual Machine
  • Phone Dialer applet (dialer.exe)
  • Time and Date applet (timedate.cpl)
  • Document Properties (docprop.dll)
  • DHCP Virtual Driver (vdhcp.386)
  • Microsoft Data Access (msdadc.dll, msadce.dll)
  • Microsoft Foundation Class Library (mfc40.dll)
  • DOS Xcopy (xcopy32.mod)

and

  • Some other minor issues.

Y2K Patch 2[]

This Y2K patch is one of the five parts that make up the Windows 98 Service Pack 1, which also includes the first Y2K patch. The Windows 98 Y2K patch 2 will resolve many issues in Windows 98. It includes Y2K fixes for:

  • OLE Automation and dates with 30 being interpreted as the 20th century, eg 1/1/30 is converted to 1/1/1930, irrespective of the user's century window settings in Control Panel\Regional Settings\Date tab.
  • DOS Xcopy: when using xcopy in real mode with the optional parameter /D:date, xcopy does not accept years entered as 2 digits, except for the years 80 - 99. The message "Invalid date" is displayed.
  • The Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ) MQRT.DLLis installed as part of Personal Web Server, and the issues addressed in the patch are not Y2K related, but rather a misinterpretation of leap years.
